Seeting up new quangos perverse response to Audit Scotland report

5.03.25pm GMT Wed 24th Feb 2010

Commenting on the Audit Scotland report into public sector efficiency, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP said:

“The SNP Government isn’t taking seriously enough the threat to frontline services. Setting up new quangos is a perverse response to Audit Scotland’s warning.

“Audit Scotland is clear that the public sector needs to save more money. Alex Salmond has to get his priorities straight so that key services, like education, are protected.

“But his rhetoric is louder than his actions. On one hand the SNP call for restraint, but then they waste £30 million on setting up expensive quangos like the invisible Skills Development Scotland and the laughable Scottish Futures Trust.

“The Scottish Government must accept the bleak warning from Audit Scotland and take action.”
