Smith demands statement from First Minister on class sizes

11.48.34am GMT Tue 8th Dec 2009

Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP has demanded the First Minister makes sorting out the emerging crisis in education a priority and that he makes a statement to Parliament about the class size row.

Commenting after a week of personal and political crisis for the First Minister, Mrs Smith said:

“Instead of launching his Christmas card, the First Minister should be trying to sort out the emerging crisis his Government has created in education.

“We’ve serious concerns that the SNP Government has broken three of their own codes of conduct during the class size furore.

“Over the weekend we had the third excuse for this shambles.

“The only way that this mess can be cleared up is by a statement from the First Minister to the Parliament as soon as possible.”

Ends.
